I’ve been a fan of Groupon for a long time. It is such a fun site to find all kinds of amazing deals on a huge variety of goods and services.
Over the years, we have enjoyed some special getaways, and I have surprised Larry with a few really special Birthday gifts like a helicopter flying lesson, a chance to drive a race car and fly fishing lessons. Plus I’ve gotten some sweet deals on things like artisanal vinegars and oils, ear buds and a whole bunch of kitchen gadgets.
But I think the restaurant deals may be our favorites, so when Groupon asked me to write about their “Taste of Groupon” promotion, I jumped at the chance. We love trying new restaurants, and doing it at a bargain price? Sweet!
During this promotion, Groupon is also doing something else pretty special – for every meal purchased, they will donate a meal to Feeding America. It’s a double win – you get to try a new restaurant, and Groupon donates a meal! On top of that, you can submit a photo of your favorite meal to Instagram, Twitter, or on the Groupon site, for a chance to win $100 in Groupon bucks.
This time, I chose a deal from La Piazza, which is in Syracuse, a bit over an hour away from us, and a place we drive through fairly often. La Piazza specializes in Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, so I knew we would be able to find something to our liking with no trouble at all. And the “Taste of Groupon” deal made this all the more enjoyable, because of the huge discount we got on our meal.
They get you started at La Piazza with their house bread, and a generous helping of a specialty of theirs: house made Greek yogurt with feta cheese, spices and spicy oil – really special.
We started off with a large Antipasti to share – it was huge, fresh, and very good!
We went kind of old school with our entrees – Larry’s Carbonara
And my Chicken Parmesan
And we made sure to save room for dessert – carrot cake and zabaglione
It was all good, and the bright airy atmosphere, with big windows for people watching as a nearby theater let out, was very comfy on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
It was everything that Taste of Groupon is supposed to be – we enjoyed a very nice meal at a new-to-us restaurant, and for a great price. And there is a high likelihood that we’ll return to La Piazza, so being a part of Groupon is great for them too.
