I can’t believe that this much time has gone by since my last post. Crazy.
Things are good here – very good, in fact. The changes we are going through have taken up so much of my attention, blogging has kind of faded in my priorities.
Foremost is my determination to get back into good physical shape again. This is an area to which I have not paid much attention the last few years. At my age and with my hereditary metabolism, that has been a recipe for disaster [one I will not share!], and on March 1st I began really working on fixing the results. I track my activity, and what I eat scrupulously every single day. Now, the lack of new recipes might make a bit more sense, right?
It’s not that my recipes were so terribly unhealthy before. I always use fresh, unprocessed ingredients, and I’m always mindful of the nutritional content. Not always so mindful of the calories though, and that has changed. So, going forward, you are likely to see more recipes for meals that are heavy on nutrition, and lighter on calories. Rest assured though, the flavor will still be number one – I still insist on really really tasty food.
We also have a new addition to our family. Since losing Riley last August, we were just kind of kicking back, and deciding if we still wanted to make room in our life for another dog. We’ve always had a dog, so it seemed like a good thing to check to see if that was still requirement for us to be satisfied with life. Life is certainly easier without a dog – we could go and do whatever struck our fancy with no thought of making any sort of accommodations for getting back at a certain time, boarding or bringing a dog along.
But then, when my sister and I made our annual visit to Arizona to visit the folks. They all have dogs, and mostly all small dogs. So upon my return, we began a search for a little dog of our own, and as you can from the photo on the right, we found our new friend in short order. Ziggy is a Chihuahua mix and to say she has brightened up our lives would be an incredible understatement. A small dog is big change for us, and we are having so much fun with her.
Ziggy is also really helping me get back in better shape too – she is very hardy for such a little girl, and easily keeps up with mile long walks several times a day. If you follow me [click on the link to do so] on Instagram, you get to see some lovely photos of spring coming to upstate NY [finally!].
I have lost over 25 pounds, and have no plans to stop anytime soon. I’m using Fitbit, and MyFitnessPal to track my activity and nutrition. They both have an accountability element that I really like, which is a social connection with other users – within the boundaries that you set, they can see how you’re doing, and knowing that really helps me stay on track. Connect with me if you like – you can find me on MyFitnessPal as DonalynK, and on Fitbit as just Donalyn.
We are gearing up for Farmer’s Market, and along with my increased activity level, I am not on the computer nearly as much as I used to be, so though I am resuming blogging, it will not be as frequent as it once was. You can expect to see some tasty recipes, as well as more information about essential oils, fitness, and plenty of shots of a certain little canine friend!
