We are having a very happy week here at Creekside. We've all been waiting for our younger daughter and her husband to be blessed with children, and yesterday, they were very happy to welcome their new daughter into the world. Our third grandchild! Not only that, but we are especially thrilled that they now live just a few hours away, instead of 2 days' driving, so we will get to share in this life of this new little one much more than we had originally anticipated. We feel incredibly thankful ... Read More about Outrageous Chocolate Toffee Cookies

Peanut Butter Bars with Milk Chocolate Ganache
Though for the most part, I prefer dark chocolate over milk chocolate, there is one exception to the rule: milk chocolate and peanut butter, as in these Peanut Butter Bars. This flavor combination brings back memories for me every time. Closeted in my bedroom as a teenager, devouring book after book, and nibbling on my secret stash of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. As the oldest of five kids, I felt I had a lot from which to hide, along with a bunch of teen-aged angsty stuff that we all go ... Read More about Peanut Butter Bars with Milk Chocolate Ganache
Quick and Easy Chocolate Snack Cake
Snack Cakes are a very good thing to have in your bag of tricks. A snack cake implies a fast prep, probably without a mixer, and fairly simple ingredients. This Chocolate Snack Cake is all that, and results in a cake that is richer, moister and with a more refined texture than you might expect. You can thank the buttermilk for the texture, because it gives this cake a nice light rise, while it enhances the chocolate flavor. If you spend any time on this blog at all, you are probably already ... Read More about Quick and Easy Chocolate Snack Cake
Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownies
We have lots of big changes going on in our family. Mostly because our younger daughter and her husband are expecting their first baby, and he is starting a new job and they are moving from Georgia to Pennsylvania. Besides general moral support, we get to be involved to the extent that we are keeping Sammy the super-jowly dog while they get moved, as well as having them stay with us off and on through the process. If there is a better time to make Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownies than when ... Read More about Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownies
S’more Chocolate Pie
It's a little ironic that only days after mentioning how little my husband loves chocolate, I am offering yet another chocolate dessert that you just might like to make for your Valentine. The fact is, I like chocolate - actually, I love chocolate and I know that lots of other people do too. Maybe even you, am I right? You know it's true. And, when you get right down to, it even my Valentine was impressed by this particular chocolate thing. That is partly because it's a pie and the guy loves ... Read More about S’more Chocolate Pie
Chocolate Pudding Cake
Why do we equate chocolate with affection? And Valentines Day? Who cares? Not me, that is for sure. I never have a struggle finding reasons to have chocolate in any case, but an actual chocolate-sanctioned holiday? I'm there. I can completely buy that chocolate means love, and if we are going to celebrate love, chocolate is the best way to do it. The trouble is, my own object of affection isn't very fond of chocolate in large amounts. He hid this from me until after we were married, which I ... Read More about Chocolate Pudding Cake
Chewy Chocolate Crinkles
Time to get out all of the baking sheets, mixing bowls, measuring spoons and the big bottle of vanilla extract! You know - it's Christmas Cookie time! My Mom always had this idea that we should eat a healthy diet, so for the majority of year, we really didn't get a lot of sweets. I know it sounds crazy, but we had to get by on stuff made with whole wheat flour, raw sugar and carob powder. Then came Christmastime and all bets were off - Mom baked mountains of all our favorites and for a few ... Read More about Chewy Chocolate Crinkles
Almond Brownies
Brownies. Really, there are few things in life that are more sublime than a really nice batch of fudgy, rich brownies. it is one of the first things I ever remember baking on my own, using my Mom's stained recipe card to guide me. Mom was a bit of a chocolate freak, so this recipe had been used many times. This was quite a long time ago, when box mixes were in their infancy, and pretty terrible. Mom held them in very low esteem, and I have to say that I agree with her about that. Particularly ... Read More about Almond Brownies
Coconut Toffee Squares
Is there a better flavor combo? Coconut, toffee, almonds, chocolate? Chewy, rich, with a little crunch? A little snap when you bite through the chocolate? Oh golly… See – if I had my way, we would eat a lot more chocolate. But Larry thinks it is actually possible for something to have too much chocolate! Have you ever heard anything so crazy? Still, I love him anyway, so when I come up with a recipe that has chocolate, most of the time, I make sure that there are some things in there that Larry ... Read More about Coconut Toffee Squares
