It does not get much more seasonal that fresh radishes. We've been enjoying a bumper crop of them this spring. A few springs ago, I shared this Sauteed Radishes with Sea Salt & Lime recipe, that we still enjoy at least a few times each spring. Cooking radishes does something really special, that we never dreamed of till we tried it, so I hope you will check that recipe out too. And I am always happy to eat freshly pulled radishes with just a bit of coarse salt, or sliced very thin and ... Read More about Quick Pickled Radishes

Sweet and Smokey Braised Cabbage
We are probably peasants at heart. I think only peasants like cabbage as much as we do. I'm okay with that though. Peasants get to hang out in cozy houses at the end of a long winter day and eat homey stuff like this Sweet and Smokey Braised Cabbage. I can’t remember where I got the recipe that was the original inspiration for this dish. It seems as though one of Larry’s sisters or perhaps his Mom, found it in the local paper, but I’m not certain. The original was a lot simpler in terms of ... Bowtie Pasta with Roasted Broccoli
I do love the holidays, and all that it takes to get ready to share special times with our family and friends. But - it can get really hectic sometimes. And for a lot of people, add in stuff like kids to take care of, a full time job and other obligations - it's easy to see why so many people just put their heads down and wish for January to get here. I can't help you do your shopping or baking, but I might be able to help you with a fast and easy dinner that everyone will love, and is ... Read More about Bowtie Pasta with Roasted Broccoli
Butternut Sausage Soup
Looking back over the recipes on my blog by the month, this time of year, everything seems to be orange. And I am okay with that! Pumpkins are orange, winter squash is orange, even oranges are orange. Orange is yummy. It is another banner year for winter squash around here - Larry told me how many we have, but I can't remember the exact number. In the 100's somewhere, if you count the pumpkins. We sold lots of them at the market this year, gave away a bunch of them to the kids and friends, and ... Read More about Butternut Sausage Soup
Lemony Carrot Muffins
We are getting this first snow of the year as I am writing this today. Just some flurries, and I doubt we will see much in the way of accumulation, but still. The day it first snows is not my favorite day of the year. I do like getting back into baking mode though. Also soup, casserole, stew, roast and chili modes are pretty great. And I am really enjoying being back in bread baking mode! So, in keeping with taking my blessings as they come, we had some rather over enthusiastic carrots left in ... Zucchini Oat Bread
As is always the case, October is roaring in and establishing very rapidly that summer is over. Done, fini, a time remembered, rather than lived in presently. No frosts yet, though that might change before this week is out. Still, there is no denying that we are pretty much done gardening for the year. We finished up Farmer's Market last week, and it was kind of sad to put everything away till next May or June when we begin again. We still have a row of beans that are in full blossom, and they ... Jalapeno Garlic Dill Pickles
I think this is the busiest time of year for any gardener. As the summer winds down, we have to get everything put up for winter - currently that consists mostly of squishing tons of tomatoes into various jars and running the canner for hours every day. I try to mix of what I am making, so it doesn't become too tedious - today it's crushed tomatoes. But before I move over to the kitchen to get those going, I want to share my fast and easy recipe for these Jalapeno Garlic Dill Pickles. It's a ... Read More about Jalapeno Garlic Dill Pickles
Marinated Tomato Salad
I am writing to you from the land of grandchildren today! It's a happy place, if a bit tiring exhausting at times. We are minding our granddaughter Evelyn, while her baby brother Micah gets born - fun times for all. He is a healthy, sturdy little guy, and it's instant love the first time you hold your grandkids! We would not trade this time for anything - both spending extra time with Evelyn, and getting to know Micah when he comes home later today. I have to admit it will be nice to have our ... Lemony Dill Hummus
...with Cucumber Dippers! Hi there! I am picking my head up from the pails that contain our farmer's market produce to put this fantastic recipe together for you! Farmer's Market is a lot of fun, but I am not sure we could handle more than one market a week - getting everything looking good and ready to sell is a lot of work. There are people who do a market just about every day of the week, and they must be exhausted all the time! Or maybe they are a lot younger than we are. Yeah - that last ... Spicy Zucchini “Fries”
We have had a pretty busy summer here at Creekside. I'm not exactly sure how Larry had time to ever go to work before he retired, because it seems like every day is filled to overflowing. Our latest adventure is that we have become vendors at a local market in my hometown. The Thursday Night Farm to Fork Farmer's Market is a fun venue, with music, great food from local restaurants [often using products from the vendors], and a revolving number of other local small producers. We had thought about ... Read More about Spicy Zucchini “Fries”
3 Light Summer Salads
I know that I have been scarce here on the blog lately. Lots of you have been regular visitors though, and I am grateful and so pleased that you find good information here, even when I am so often absent. Things are getting better, day by day. I am getting a handle on some health challenges that I have been struggling with, in addition to losing Larry's sister at the beginning of the year. Instrumental in that has been my discovery of essential oils, which I will talk about more soon, but ... Read More about 3 Light Summer Salads
Rutabaga Cheddar Mash
Poor rutabagas - so misunderstood! So ignored and under-appreciated! Not around here though. They have always been a big favorite of ours, and this is the perfect time of year to enjoy them. They are a very easy vegetable to grow, though here they don't seem to become quite as large as the ones we can buy in the store - you want to harvest them at about softball size, so that they don't become fibrous. We are out of the ones we grew last fall, because though they keep quite a long time, we have ... Read More about Rutabaga Cheddar Mash
