Puff Pastry Rosemary Garlic Twists are a fast appetizer
I think summer has finally settled in here in Upstate NY. For me, that means my oven won’t be turned on for the foreseeable future. We don’t have AC and keeping the house cool is one of my main objectives this time of year. But, I would make an exception for these Puff Pastry Rosemary Garlic Twists.
These are baked to perfection in no time
The main reason I would make an exception is that they are delicious. But they are also done in 15 minutes or less, so the oven doesn’t have to be on for long. A toaster oven also works just fine. They’re the perfect little nosh on the porch with a glass of wine in the evening.
And speaking of the porch, this is the kind of recipe that makes me keep a little herb garden right out front where I can grab a few sprigs of rosemary in a hurry! If you’re looking for little plant markers, the one pictured was a gift, but these are cute!
Just a few simple ingredients
With the fresh rosemary, this recipe uses just five ingredients. Just butter, rosemary, garlic, puff pasty and Pecorino Romano cheese.
Frozen puff pastry makes it extra easy
You know that I don’t go in for a whole lot of processed food. I can and have often made puff pastry myself, but the whole idea behind this recipe is that it is fast and each. Puff pastry is kind of difficult to pull off in hot humid weather, so sometimes, a little trip down the frozen food aisle is necessary!
Puff pastry usually comes in sheets that are folded in thirds. When you unfold a sheet, there are easy to follow lines to cut through. Each third should be cut into 10 strips so that each sheet yields 30 pieces. Give the strips a little twist, and press down the ends slightly so they stay in place.
Let the butter, rosemary, and garlic steep together for a couple of minutes
I like Pecorino Romano cheese, but other kinds will work too
I think the extra salty bite of romano is perfect for these twists, but parmesan, asiago or provolone would be great as well. And yes, you can use the cheese dust in a can if that’s what you have. Don’t sweat the small stuff!
Here’s how to make Puff Pastry Rosemary Garlic Twists
Puff Pastry Rosemary Garlic Twists
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 4 ounces of butter
- 2 cloves garlic, finely minced or shredded on a microplane
- 1 tablespoon fresh minced rosemary
- 1 ounce romano cheese, shredded
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°, and line a heavy baking sheet with parchment paper
- Melt the butter in a small sauce
- Stir the minced rosemary and garlic into the butter, and keep over very low heat for about 5 minutes - it should just steep, not get browned
- Meanwhile, unfold the sheet of puff pastry, and separate the thirds. Cut each third into 10 strips - you will have 30 strips
- Arrange the strips on the baking sheet, and twist each one a couple times, pressing down the ends a bit, so that they stay twisted.
- Remove the butter from the heat, and using a small spoon, or a pastry brush, drizzle each twist with a generous amount of the butter mixture. Keep it stirred up so that some rosemary and garlic are on each piece
- Sprinkle the twists with the shredded Romano cheese
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until they are puffed, and golden. Serve immediately.

Lovely little wonders of airy, crunchy deliciousness!
Looking for something else that is good on the front porch? How about Tomato Cheese Crackers or Spicy Roasted Almonds? And you need something good to drink with that too – I suggest a Blueberry Margarita – enjoy!
I was so happy to see this new recipe last night. I had everything I needed to make them already, so I gave it a shot. They were so good – light, crispy and have a great flavor. We don’t have a porch, but they were really good on our deck with some adult beverages. This recipe is a keeper!
Hi Elise and thanks for your kind words. I am so glad I got the recipe up in time for your evening 😉
